INRC Fall Water Research Seminar Series
November 18, 2020 - 3:00-4:00 p.m.

Evaluating flood mitigation strategies in an agricultural watershed in Iowa using process-based hydrologic modeling

Presenter: Antonio Arenas Amado, associate research engineer, IIHR Hydroscience & Engineering - University of Iowa

This work presents quantifications of flood reduction benefits, at the watershed-scale, associated to a system of distributed storage and different levels of implementation of cover crops and native vegetation strips.

About the presenter: Antonio Arenas has a PhD in civil & environmental engineering. He has been working with computational models applied to water resources management for more than 10 years. Arenas’ research focuses on the development and application of fully-coupled surface-subsurface watershed models to assess mitigation projects directed toward flood damage reduction and study the fate and transport of nutrients. He regularly speaks at Watershed Management Authority (WMA) and other conservation groups meetings providing technical expertise and guidance to people working in creating more resilient watersheds in Iowa.

This virtual seminar series is sponsored by the Iowa Nutrient Research Center at Iowa State University. All sessions are free and open to the public. Download the flyer for the series.
