The status of nutrient reduction strategies in states along the Upper Mississippi River will be the focus of the spring 2026 seminar series hosted by the Iowa Nutrient Research Center. The sessions feature scientists who have been leaders in developing, updating and tracking the progress of nutrient reduction strategies in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Indiana.

2025 Nutrient Reduction Strategy Update and Next Steps
Presenter: Matt Drewitz, research scientist, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
Matt is a research scientist. He has worked for the State of Minnesota for over 25 years in water quality policy, planning and research. His work focuses on impacts from nutrients and sediment, watershed models and tools for decision support, and connecting watershed efforts to water quality improvements. He was a member of a team of agency and university staff that helped revise and update Minnesota’s Nutrient Reduction Strategy, posted in late January 2026.
This seminar is the second session in INRC's Spring 2026 Iowa Water Quality Research Seminar series. Presentations will be recorded and posted under Resources and Publications on INRC’s website with speakers’ permission. The INRC seminars are free and open to the public.
