The status of nutrient reduction strategies in states along the Upper Mississippi River will be the focus of the spring 2026 seminar series hosted by the Iowa Nutrient Research Center. The sessions feature scientists who have been leaders in developing, updating and tracking the progress of nutrient reduction strategies in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Indiana.

A stakeholder-centered approach to developing a new nutrient loss reduction strategy for Wisconsin
Presenter: Joseph Bonnell, PhD, nutrient reduction strategy coordinator, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

Joe has been working to promote and facilitate collaborative approaches to watershed management and non-point source pollution abatement since 1996, first with Ohio State University Extension for 20 years and, more recently, with the University of Wisconsin – Madison as a natural resources educator before moving into his current position in the Office of Agriculture and Water Quality at the Wisconsin DNR in 2023. He is passionate about the application of democratic principles and collaborative processes to address water resource management issues.

This seminar is the first of the sessions for INRC's Spring 2026 Iowa Water Quality Research Seminar series. Presentations will be recorded and posted under Resources and Publications on INRC’s website with speakers’ permission. The INRC seminars are free and open to the public.
